DESCRIPTION: Also known as the Elm Currant Aphid the resultant gall is found on one half of the host leaf which duly curls over, becomes crinkled and has a waxy inner surface.  The colour of the gall is mainly light green to yellow but pinkish shades can be seen too.  The aphids the frequent the gall are dull brown and waxy. DISTRIBUTION: Widely spread throughout the UK but under-recorded and lacking records in many areas where Elms occur. HABITAT: Found on the leaves of various Elms (Ulmus). The aphids lifecycle is complete when they leave these galls to live, mate and feed on the roots of Currant (Ribes) bushes. After mating the offspring fly back to the Elms in autumn where eggs are laid.
